Romney is counterattacking in the wake of the secret video in which he opened himself up to the charge that he was dissing the poor and middle class -- a performance even many top Republicans are criticizing. He’s trying to offset the perception that he is insensitive to the plight of Americans less wealthy than he, and his super wealthy major backers, by arguing that he has the best plan to economically uplift all Americans. He and his camp will also be searching for some big, new idea that he can unveil, hoping to change subject. Can Romney recover? Most experienced political operatives think yes -- if he moves quickly and decisively and stops making gaffes and does well in debates.
