From Dan: Romney's Chance to Reboot in Tonight's Debate
posted on October 03, 2012 by Dan

From Dan: Tonight’s debate is a time of opportunity for Romney. It’s an opportunity for President Obama, too, but less so than for his opponent. Romney needs a breakout and a breakthrough...a reboot, if you will, of how the public perceives him. He needs to be alert, but relaxed. He has come off so far as robotic, brittle - even hollow - awkward and someone who doesn't really know for what he stands. This may be unfair and untrue but it is the way some voters, especially some independents and swing voters, say they perceive him. He has a chance in the debate to reverse or at least diminish that.

He also needs to be more specific than he has been about what his plans for the country are, should he be elected and explain why he is a better alternative to the incumbent President. He needs to keep his focus on the economy as much as possible -- talk about jobs and economic growth at every turn. (But not get bogged down in over-emphasizing statistics, as he has tended to do.)

Under no circumstances should he come off as rattled. He's tended at times to do this when pressed about his personal wealth, tax records, off-shore accounts, etc.

Overall, if it's true that so far he has come across as not as good as it really is, this is a golden opportunity to prove it.
