From Dan: The Worst Congress in the History of the Republic
posted on September 23, 2012 by Dan

I spent a couple of days in Washington, D.C., reporting and visiting friends, including some on Diplomatic Row. My thinking as I made the rounds: I lived and worked 10 years here, so many memories, so much learned. Washington has grown (including urban and suburban sprawl), but I still love it lots. I doubt any American can come to Washington for the first time and not be enthralled and inspired. I know I was. And still am, every time I come. What is not enthralling, nor inspiring is the performance of the now adjourned (again!) Congress. This may be the worst Congress in the history of the Republic. (You scoff and think that's an overstatement? Point to one you think may have been worse.) Certainly, by any objective analysis, it is at best one of the worst ever. For those of you asking why, one big reason is the corrupting influence of special interest heavy money. In that sense, it is the best Congress money can buy, which is why this Congress has sunk to a new, I believe, all-time low.
